In 2011, the City of Peoria made it mandatory to register your vacant property.

According to the City of Peoria’s website,

Properties must be registered between January 1st and March 1st. Failure to register your property annually will result in a ticket being issued for each violation of the ordinance.

An exception to registering non-owner occupied structures has been added allowing properties occupied by an immediate family member (defined as an owner’s parent, sibling, spouse, or child) to be fee-exempt. However, units and structures that are occupied by an immediate family member of the owner will still have to register the property.

Landlords and tenants are also required to conduct an interior life safety inspections. The landlord and tenant will be required prior to occupancy or at least once a year, whichever is more frequent, to conduct this self-inspection.
