Jubilee College State Park, located nearby, is an Illinois State park that contains Jubilee College State Historic Site. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Although the historic site was closed in 2008, the state park is still open and contains a number of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The college was founded in 1839 by Philander Chase, an Episcopal bishop. Many area residents enjoy the state park and the trails that include 3,100 acres of open space operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
