    Tazewell County, Illinois is the location of Washington real estate. This is a city that is a part of the Peoria Metropolitan Area.     Washington was founded in 1834. William Holland, Sr. was hired by the U.S. government to provide blacksmith services to Native Americans who lived in this area. The city was originally named Holland’s Grove and was renamed in 1837 in honor of George Washington, the first U.S. president. George Heyl started a pony farm here in the 1920s and raised Shetland ponies. The Heyl Pony Farm had several barns on what is today North Main Street. Some of these original buildings still exist. There was an old canning factory located in Washington and it was run by the Libby’s company after the war. Although the building burned, the site is occupied by American Allied Railway Equipment Company.

    Top employers in Washington include Illinois Valley Plastics, Miller Welding & Iron Works; American Allied Railway Equipment Company; WICC, Ltd.; RP Short Run; Global Fire Equipment/MES and Akron Brass. Five Points Washington, a new community center, was opened in October 2007 in Washington. A new assisted living center was opened for senior in 2008.

The proximity to Peoria provides many recreational and entertainment choices.
